Demonic Pact Shadow Stack (31/18 Destruction/2)

ProjectionTheory

Sacrifice the Imp for +15% Shadow damage, summon the Succubus under Demonic Pact and run Shadow Bolt as filler with Bane, Improved Shadow Bolt and Ruin from the Destruction tree. Stat priority

  1. Spell Power (Shadow)
  2. Hit
  3. Critical Strike
  4. Haste
  5. Spirit
  6. Intellect
  7. Stamina

No Suppression here, so Hit comes from gear. Shadow Bolt is a hard cast, so Haste counts (unlike DoT builds), but Improved Shadow Bolt and Ruin make Crit the bigger multiplier. L60 stats are hidden; projection.

How to play it

  • Pre-pull: summon the Imp, cast Demonic Sacrifice (+15% Shadow damage for 2 hrs), then summon the Succubus; Demonic Pact keeps the sacrifice alive. The Succubus is the DPS demon (Icy Veins).
  • Cast Soul Link on the Succubus (+3% damage to both of you, 30% of damage you take goes to the demon).
  • Curse of the Elements or Recklessness for your group, then Bane of Doom if the target lives over a minute (it explodes after 60 sec and can spawn a Doomguard, Icy Veins), then Shadow Bolt filler.
  • Execute: Decimation makes Shadow Bolt or Searing Pain on targets under 35% deal +6% damage and grants a cheaper, faster Soul Fire (-40% cast, no shard).
  • Keep the Succubus alive and in range: Demonic Energies heals it for 15% of your spell damage and Life Tap gives it Mana; Move To (100 yd) pulls it out of AoE.
  • Never resummon an Imp: resummoning the sacrificed pet cancels the sacrifice even with Demonic Pact. Master Summoner and Fel Domination make other resummons fast and cheap after a wipe.

Verdict

Demonology is the pet-stacking Warlock, and its best version is built around one new talent: Demonic Pact. Thirty-one points reach it, which lets you Demonic Sacrifice the Imp for +15% Shadow damage and still field a live Succubus or Felhunter, so Demonic Knowledge, Master Demonologist and Soul Link stay active. Icy Veins describes exactly that interaction as the point of the rework.

Rankings are the weakest part of the case. Per the wowforever.co aggregator, MMOExp and Overgear (both sellers) drop Demonology to the bottom D band while the 16 Sep forum thread has it in A, which is as wide a spread as any Warlock spec gets. The one hands-on data point is Icy Veins' beta demo: the Succubus was the strongest damage demon at roughly 23-25% of Warlock damage, the Imp struggled with Mana and damage, and the Voidwalker out-threatened tanks. Pets scale with your stats now, so Demonology gets the most out of that.

Treat it as high variance. Pet tuning can move this spec more than any other, and nothing past level 38 has been played. Icy Veins' Sep 17-20 guides still quote Gnome Eureka! at 50% Mana reduction; the Sep-24 build made it a flat 10% cost cut plus 10% damage on the next 3 abilities for every class (Blizzard dev notes).

Strengths

  • Demonic Sacrifice (Imp: +15% Shadow) into a fresh Succubus with Demonic Pact stacks Shadow damage with Master Demonologist (+10% Shadow at 5 ranks) and Soul Link (+3% damage for you and the demon).
  • Demonic Knowledge adds spell damage equal to up to 100% of your level while a demon is out, and Demonic Embrace adds 15% Stamina.
  • Soul Link diverts 30% of damage you take to the demon, and Demonic Energies heals the demon for 15% of your spell damage while Life Tap refills its Mana.
  • Fast recovery from wipes: Master Summoner (-4 sec cast, -40% Mana) plus Fel Domination (-5.5 sec, -50% Mana) make resummons cheap.

Weaknesses

  • Widest ranking spread of the three Warlock specs: two seller lists put it at D while a forum poster put it at A, and none of them played level 60.
  • Pet management: Icy Veins notes poor positioning or a demon wandering through another pack can ruin a pull, and the Succubus is melee.
  • It splits points three ways in PvE (31 Demonology / 18 Destruction / 2 Affliction), so it has no Suppression Hit or threat reduction.
  • Re-summoning the sacrificed Imp cancels Demonic Sacrifice even with Demonic Pact, and the Succubus is a fragile melee pet that you must keep alive.
