Soul Link Felhunter Bruiser (20/31/0)
ProjectionTheorySacrifice the Imp for Shadow damage, then summon a Felhunter thanks to Demonic Pact: Soul Link soaks 30% of your damage, Master Demonologist cuts Magic damage taken, Spell Lock and Devour Magic cover healers and casters. Instant Corruption and Fel Concentration-backed Drain Life handle sustained pressure.

Stamina gets a 15% talent boost and Soul Link/Life Tap already trade Health for safety, so raw Health pays twice. Item stats are hidden until drops; this order is a projection.

Cloth caster, so rank rewards are about the trinket and the elite cloth pieces. Rare PvP gear needs level 55 and Battleground marks (beta costs per Icy Veins: cloak 10 Arathi Basin marks + 3,000 Honor, chest 15 AB marks, legs 15 Warsong Gulch marks, helm 15 Alterac Valley marks). Buy in this order: R2 Insignia Trinket (3,500 Honor, 2,000 more for the Elite upgrade), R3 Faction Cloak, R4 Faction Necklace, R5 Combat Potions, then the R12 legs/shoulders and R13 chest/helmet elite pieces (R8 wrist/waist, R9 boots, R10 gloves fill in on the way; Emboldened Seals upgrade rare to Elite, datamined but not fully confirmed). R14 Weapon Arsenal (needs week 10+ of the season per the datamined weekly rank ceiling) lists a Grand Marshal's Stave, Mageblade, Longsword and Tome of Power; the stat budgets are hidden until items drop. R7 Battle Standard (15% max health aura, 10-minute cooldown) is for premade leaders, not for you.
How to play it
- Pre-queue sequence: summon the Imp and cast Demonic Sacrifice (+15% Shadow damage, 2 hrs). Demonic Pact keeps the effect when you summon a different demon, so then summon the Felhunter and activate Soul Link. Resummoning an Imp would cancel the sacrifice.
- Role: node defender in Arathi Basin and Darkspear Islands, and a flag-room guard in Warsong Gulch. Soul Link makes you hard to burst; the Felhunter eats the damage and heals through Demonic Energies.
- Felhunter tools: Spell Lock interrupts casters (Improved Felhunter shortens its cooldown by up to 6 sec; the build takes one rank) and Devour Magic is a dispel (Icy Veins). Master Demonologist gives the Felhunter variant -10% Magic damage taken at 5 ranks.
- Corruption is instant (5 Improved Corruption); channel Drain Life with Fel Concentration (70% to avoid interruption) when peeled. Fear is the escape button; avoid it near other enemies.
- Health Funnel costs 30% less Health with Improved Health Funnel and works regardless of the demon's health, so you can revive a hurt Felhunter mid-fight.
- Soul Link lasts only as long as the demon is active, so keep it alive: heal it with Health Funnel and Demonic Energies, and do not park it in AoE.
Verdict
Demonology is the pet-stacking Warlock, and its best version is built around one new talent: Demonic Pact. Thirty-one points reach it, which lets you Demonic Sacrifice the Imp for +15% Shadow damage and still field a live Succubus or Felhunter, so Demonic Knowledge, Master Demonologist and Soul Link stay active. Icy Veins describes exactly that interaction as the point of the rework.
Rankings are the weakest part of the case. Per the wowforever.co aggregator, MMOExp and Overgear (both sellers) drop Demonology to the bottom D band while the 16 Sep forum thread has it in A, which is as wide a spread as any Warlock spec gets. The one hands-on data point is Icy Veins' beta demo: the Succubus was the strongest damage demon at roughly 23-25% of Warlock damage, the Imp struggled with Mana and damage, and the Voidwalker out-threatened tanks. Pets scale with your stats now, so Demonology gets the most out of that.
Treat it as high variance. Pet tuning can move this spec more than any other, and nothing past level 38 has been played. Icy Veins' Sep 17-20 guides still quote Gnome Eureka! at 50% Mana reduction; the Sep-24 build made it a flat 10% cost cut plus 10% damage on the next 3 abilities for every class (Blizzard dev notes).
Strengths
- Demonic Sacrifice (Imp: +15% Shadow) into a fresh Succubus with Demonic Pact stacks Shadow damage with Master Demonologist (+10% Shadow at 5 ranks) and Soul Link (+3% damage for you and the demon).
- Demonic Knowledge adds spell damage equal to up to 100% of your level while a demon is out, and Demonic Embrace adds 15% Stamina.
- Soul Link diverts 30% of damage you take to the demon, and Demonic Energies heals the demon for 15% of your spell damage while Life Tap refills its Mana.
- Fast recovery from wipes: Master Summoner (-4 sec cast, -40% Mana) plus Fel Domination (-5.5 sec, -50% Mana) make resummons cheap.
Weaknesses
- Widest ranking spread of the three Warlock specs: two seller lists put it at D while a forum poster put it at A, and none of them played level 60.
- Pet management: Icy Veins notes poor positioning or a demon wandering through another pack can ruin a pull, and the Succubus is melee.
- It splits points three ways in PvE (31 Demonology / 18 Destruction / 2 Affliction), so it has no Suppression Hit or threat reduction.
- Re-summoning the sacrificed Imp cancels Demonic Sacrifice even with Demonic Pact, and the Succubus is a fragile melee pet that you must keep alive.
