This is Icy Veins' Arcane ranking from the level 20 beta. Spirit works while casting through Mage Armor and Arcane Meditation. Crit becomes strong once Arcane Mind is 5/5. Icy Veins says Hit is best 'until the cap' but publishes no cap, so do not apply TBC math. Item stats stay hidden until items drop.
Best race
Arcane is a mana-limited burn spec. Expansive Mind adds 5% maximum Mana and Eureka! (10% cheaper, 10% more damage on the next 3 abilities, 2 min cooldown) fits an Arcane Power window. Icy Veins lists Gnome as a candidate for best PvE race.
Escape ArtistInstant, 2 min cooldown. Instantly escape the effects of any movement impairing effect and gain immunity to those effects for 3 sec.
Expansive MindMaximum Mana, Rage or Energy increased by 5%, whichever your class uses.
Engineering SpecializationYour gnomish ingenuity reduces the rate of engineering devices failing or backfiring when you use them by 20%.
Eureka!Instant, 2 min cooldown. Your next 3 damaging abilities cost 10% less (Mana, Rage or Energy) and deal 10% more damage. For healers, your next 3 damaging or healing abilities cost 10% less Mana and do 10% more.
Blood Fury (+10% Spell Power for 15 s, 2 min cooldown) matches the 15 s Arcane Power window and comes up more often than Berserking. Icy Veins calls Orc and Troll roughly tied.
Blood FuryInstant, 2 min cooldown. Increases Attack Power and Spell Power by 10% for 15 sec.
HardinessDuration of Stun effects on you reduced by 20%.
Axe SpecializationIncreases your critical strike chance with all spells and abilities by 1% while you have an axe or a two-handed axe equipped.
Shatter CurseInstant, 3 min cooldown. Instantly removes and grants immunity to all Curses and Banes, and reduces all Magical damage taken by 15% for 8 sec.

How to play it
- Core loop (Icy Veins): cast Arcane Blast up to four times, then Arcane Missiles. When Missile Barrage procs (40% from Blast, 20% from Fireball, Frostbolt and Frostfire Bolt), fire Missiles immediately: they are free and tick every 0.5 s.
- Cooldowns: Presence of Mind plus Arcane Blast, then Arcane Power (+30% damage, +30% mana cost, 15 s) on pull and on every burn phase. Use Evocation (8 min cooldown) and conjured mana gems to refill between burns.
- Movement: Fire Blast (Wake of Fire cuts its cooldown by 2 s), a Presence of Mind Arcane Blast, then the wand. Blink usually beats walking.
- Threat: Arcane Subtlety trims Arcane threat by 30%, but four-stack Blasts still out-pull a weak tank in a level 60 dungeon. Open with Blast stacks only after the tank has aggro; Ice Barrier is not in this build, so use Mana Shield.
- The Missile Barrage numbers (40% Blast, 20% Frostbolt) and the Sep-24 line-of-sight change are from the Icy Veins guide and Blizzard's dev notes; the allocation itself is a theory projection.
- Raids: Barrow Deeps (10), Hyjal Summit (20) and Onyxia (40) open on 2026-12-09. Re-verify this page after each beta build and at launch.
Verdict
Arcane is the mage to roll. Arcane Blast stacks four times for +10% damage on every other spell per stack, Missile Barrage turns a 40% Blast proc into a free, double-speed Arcane Missiles, and Arcane Mind adds +10% Intellect and +100% to the critical strike damage bonus of your Arcane spells. Icy Veins says Blast, Missiles and Missile Barrage make the tree 'a lot more likely to be played and perform well' than its Classic version.
The rankings agree with the talent text. wowforever.co's side-by-side of every published list puts Arcane in the top band in 4 of 4 spec-level sources. Be honest about what that means: those sources are two gold sellers, a Blizzard-forum player post and a boost service, not sims, and no sims exist yet. The Frost and Fire verdicts in these files are where the sources actually disagree.
The Sep-24 beta build was kind to you: Arcane Missiles now checks line of sight once when the channel starts instead of on every missile. It also hurt a little: wands no longer gain Spell Power, and Gnome Eureka! is now a flat 10% cost cut plus 10% damage on the next 3 abilities for every class.
Everything past level 30 is a projection. The beta is capped at 30 (build 1.60.1.70124), item stats are hidden until they drop, and the vendored talent file is client build 1.60.1.70009. The PvE and PvP allocations are theory built from talent text; the 10-20 leveling path follows Icy Veins' beta-tested level 20 build.
Strengths
- Highest burst in the class: Presence of Mind into Arcane Power gives 15 s of +30% spell damage, and Arcane Blast stacks add +10% damage to everything else.
- Arcane Meditation lets 50% of mana regeneration continue while casting and Arcane Concentration gives a 10% Clearcasting chance, so it can sustain the burn that Arcane Blast's cost curve demands.
- Safe to cast in groups: Improved Channeling gives 100% pushback protection on Arcane Missiles and 70% on Arcane Blast, and Improved Counterspell adds a 4 s silence.
- Icy Veins calls Arcane 'a solid leveling spec': big single-target burst for quests and Arcane Meditation cuts drink time between pulls.
- Mage utility comes free with the spec: Polymorph, Blink, food and water, portals and Arcane Intellect.
Weaknesses
- Mana is the damage budget. Each Arcane Blast stack raises its cost by 175%, and with no wand scaling after Sep 24, running dry hurts more than it used to.
- Almost no damage while moving. Icy Veins lists Presence of Mind, Fire Blast and the wand as your only options; Blink is the real movement tool.
- Aggro risk. Icy Veins warns that Arcane burst pulls threat in dungeons when the tank is not strong, and Arcane Subtlety only trims Arcane threat by 30%.
- Fewer slows than Frost, so you rely on Frostbolt, Frost Nova and Cone of Cold for kiting.
- Every level 60 conclusion is a projection until launch.
