Stat priority

  1. Spell Power (Fire)
  2. Stamina
  3. Hit
  4. Critical Strike
  5. Spirit
  6. Haste
  7. Intellect

Fire Spell Power because the sacrifice and Incinerate lean Fire, but Shadow Bolt and Shadowburn use Shadow damage. Stamina matters because you are cloth with Life Tap. Projection until items drop.

Cloth caster, so rank rewards are about the trinket and the elite cloth pieces. Rare PvP gear needs level 55 and Battleground marks (beta costs per Icy Veins: cloak 10 Arathi Basin marks + 3,000 Honor, chest 15 AB marks, legs 15 Warsong Gulch marks, helm 15 Alterac Valley marks). Buy in this order: R2 Insignia Trinket (3,500 Honor, 2,000 more for the Elite upgrade), R3 Faction Cloak, R4 Faction Necklace, R5 Combat Potions, then the R12 legs/shoulders and R13 chest/helmet elite pieces (R8 wrist/waist, R9 boots, R10 gloves fill in on the way; Emboldened Seals upgrade rare to Elite, datamined but not fully confirmed). R14 Weapon Arsenal (needs week 10+ of the season per the datamined weekly rank ceiling) lists a Grand Marshal's Stave, Mageblade, Longsword and Tome of Power; the stat budgets are hidden until items drop. R7 Battle Standard (15% max health aura, 10-minute cooldown) is for premade leaders, not for you.

How to play it

  • Sacrifice the Succubus before queueing: +15% Fire damage for 2 hours. Do not summon any demon afterwards or the buff is cancelled.
  • Burst: Immolate (Aftermath +50% initial damage) → Conflagrate (88-110 Fire, Dazes 50% for 5 sec, +10% Shadow for 20 sec) → Shadowburn (instant, +10% Fire, refunds its Shard) → Incinerate.
  • Intensity gives a 70% chance to cast through damage interruption, and Molten Skin takes 10% off all damage; your peel is the 50% Daze from Conflagrate.
  • Bane of Havoc on a second target during team fights: 15% of your damage is copied to the cursed target.
  • Role: kill-window burst in Arathi Basin, Warsong Gulch and Alterac Valley; stay near a healer or flag carrier and burst on cooldown.

Verdict

Destruction is the burst-and-nuke Warlock. Thirty-three tree points reach Incinerate (row 7) through Bane, Improved Shadow Bolt, Ruin, Agonizing Flames, Conflagrate, Bane of Havoc and Shadow and Flame, and the remaining points go into Demonology for Demonic Sacrifice (Succubus: +15% Fire) and Decimation. That shape matches the 3/17/31 split on wowtbc.gg and Icy Veins' read of the tree.

Why this build: Destruction hits now instead of ramping (Icy Veins notes it fits fast dungeon pulls), and Shadow and Flame ties the school buffs to two instants (Conflagrate no longer consumes Immolate, Shadowburn refunds its shard) that are free to weave. The cost is Mana and standing still. Public lists put it in the second band (MMOExp A, Overgear A, forum poster B per wowforever.co), below Affliction and above Demonology.

Caveats: Icy Veins' guide only covered level 20 (Bane, Destructive Reach, Cataclysm, Shadowburn). Icy Veins' Sep 17-20 guides still quote Gnome Eureka! at 50% Mana reduction; the Sep-24 build made it a flat 10% cost cut plus 10% damage on the next 3 abilities for every class (Blizzard dev notes). Fire and Shadow are separate schools on gear, so Spell Power (Fire) or (Shadow) may not both apply. Level 60 rotation and sims do not exist yet.

Strengths

  • Bane removes 0.5 sec from Shadow Bolt, Immolate and Incinerate and 2 sec from Soul Fire; Cataclysm cuts Destruction spell Mana by 10%.
  • Shadow and Flame: Conflagrate gives +10% Shadow damage and Shadowburn +10% Fire damage for 20 sec, Conflagrate stops consuming Immolate and Shadowburn always refunds its Soul Shard.
  • Incinerate does 25% more to an Immolated target and Bane of Havoc copies 15% of your damage to a second target for cheap two-target cleave.
  • Intensity (70% to resist damage interruption) and Molten Skin (-10% damage taken) give the burst spec real staying power in PvP.

Weaknesses

  • Mana hungry: hard-casting burns Mana fast (Icy Veins), so Life Tap, Cataclysm and Fel Vitality are mandatory.
  • Standing still: most damage needs casts, and Icy Veins found no dedicated movement ability at level 20.
  • Searing Pain generates significant threat (Icy Veins) and the PvE build has no Suppression, so check the tank before opening.
  • Fire and Shadow school Spell Power on gear may split your stats, and level-60 sims do not exist yet.
