Holy Priest

Healer

Renew, Binding Heal and Prayer of Mending: the bounce healer, not the solo spec.

Spirit Tap Holy, no respec

SupportedBeta-testedTheory

Icy Veins’ level-20 Holy path starts with Wand Specialization and Spirit Tap because solo Holy has no damage talents. Those five Shadow points stay in the level-60 order so you never respec. The Holy points still reach Prayer of Mending.

  2. Intellect
  3. Stamina
  4. Healing Power
  5. MP5

Spirit Tap doubles Spirit for 15 seconds after a kill and keeps 50% mana regeneration while casting. Wand the last third of every mob so the five-second rule starts.

Best race

Gnome
Alliance
Gnome
Runner-up: Human

Same reason as the dungeon build: Contingency Plan and Confounding Flash are the priest spells Icy Veins cites, and Expansive Mind is 5% mana while you are drinking every other pull.

  • Escape Artist
  • Expansive Mind
  • Engineering Specialization
  • Eureka!
Undead
Horde
Undead
Runner-up: Troll

Cannibalize restores 7% health and 7% mana every 2 seconds for 10 seconds off a humanoid or undead corpse. That is the solo mana button. Dark Sacrifice is the backup.

  • Underwater Breathing
  • Will of the Forsaken
  • Cannibalize
  • Touch of the Grave

How to play it

  • Shield, Smite, Mind Blast, Shadow Word: Pain, wand. That is Icy Veins’ solo sequence. Do not Smite a dying mob.
  • Spirit Tap is the pull timer. If it is up, pull. If it fell off, drink.
  • Renew yourself between packs only when the next pull is already running at you.
  • Group for elites. Icy Veins is right that Holy solo is the slow priest.
  • At 60 you are a healer with five wasted-looking Shadow points. They paid for every level from 10 to 30. Leave them.

Verdict

Holy is the reactive healer Blizzard still calls the Priest’s main identity, now with two new tools. Binding Heal is the 16-point spell that heals you and your target, tuned by Blizzard to match Flash Heal even if you need nothing. Prayer of Mending is the 31-point capstone: a heal that jumps up to five times when the carrier takes damage or receives a direct heal.

Icy Veins, writing for the level-20 beta, calls Holy a beginner-friendly all-rounder that is a bit weaker than the other healing specializations at single-target throughput, and says solo leveling as Holy is the wrong plan. wowforever.co’s indexed lists disagree with each other: Overgear and Skycoach put Holy at S, the Sep-16 forum post put it at C. There is no level-60 raid log behind either letter.

Blizzard added Holy Precision specifically so a healing Priest does not have to wear hit gear: 18% Holy hit at three ranks. Spiritual Guidance still converts Spirit into healing (25% of Spirit) and only a third of that into damage. That is the stat story. Gnome Eureka! is not — Sep 24 cut it to 10%.

Bring Holy when the damage is spread. Bring Discipline when one person is eating a boss ability. Do not level to 60 as a pure Holy soloist; this file’s leveling order keeps Spirit Tap so the respec never has to happen.

Strengths

  • Prayer of Mending plus Holy Nova is the spread-heal package. Binding Heal covers you and the tank in one cast.
  • Spiritual Healing is 10% to all healing in three points. Improved Healing cuts the mana of Heal, Greater Heal, Penance and Prayer of Mending by 15%.
  • Spirit of Redemption is 15 seconds of free healing after you die. In a dungeon that is a wipe save, not a trophy.
  • Same baseline kit as every Priest: Fear Ward and Devouring Plague at 20 for every race, Divine Spirit at 30, and a doubled Fade (Blizzard, Sep 30).

Weaknesses

  • Icy Veins: no real mobility, and solo damage is bad enough that they tell Holy players to take Shadow talents while leveling.
  • Cloth, and almost no personal peel beyond Psychic Scream and the racial. Blizzard says Priests need friends with control.
  • Single-target throughput loses to Discipline in Icy Veins’ beta read. Holy’s win condition is several people hurt at once.
  • Public rank is a coin flip (S on two seller lists, C on a pre-beta forum post). Nothing here has been tested at 60.
