Stat priority
- Spell Power
- Intellect
- Haste
- Critical Strike
- Spirit
Icy Veins' level-20 beta order. Spell Power and Intellect on your highest item-level pieces; Haste helps responsiveness, and Spirit pays for itself only between pulls.
Best race
Quickness gives +2% move speed, and Shadowmeld plus Elune's Light make solo pulls and bad pulls survivable.
ShadowmeldInstant, 10 sec cooldown. Activate to slip into the shadows, reducing the chance for enemies to detect your presence. Lasts until cancelled or upon moving. Using this ability in combat discourages enemies from attacking you, but increases the cooldown to 2 min.
QuicknessDodge chance increased by 1% and movement speed increased by 2%. Night Elf Rogues and Druids are harder to detect in Stealth as if they were 1 level higher.
Wisp SpiritTransform into a wisp upon death, increasing movement speed by 75%.
Elune's LightInstant, 3 min cooldown. Increases your critical strike chance with all spells and attacks by 10% for 15 sec.
Plainsrunning builds up to +30% run speed and the extra Health and 1% hit smooth out solo questing.
War Stomp0.5 sec cast, 2 min cooldown. Stuns up to 5 enemies within 8 yds for 2 sec.
EnduranceTotal Health increased by 5% and chance to hit increased by 1%.
CultivationInstant, 1 hour cooldown. Cultivate a nearby herb, growing a duplicate you can harvest without requiring Herbalism skill. Each herb may only be cultivated once.
PlainsrunningGain 1% increased movement speed every 5 sec spent moving, up to a maximum of 30% increase. Taking damage or standing still will reduce this effect.
How to play it
- Levels 10-14 go all-in on Improved Wrath: 0.5 sec faster and 50% cheaper makes Wrath your efficient filler (Icy Veins' level-20 pick as well).
- Moonfire to tag at range, then Wrath; Nature's Reach (levels 15-16) cuts misses and extends your pull range.
- From level 24 Nature's Splendor opens row 4: Insect Swarm at 25 and Vengeance from 26 to 30 for far bigger crits.
- Eclipse arrives at 32-34 and Moonfury at 35-39; from level 40 Moonkin Form arrives with a +360% armor bonus, then fill Improved Starfire, Nature's Focus, Naturalist and Genesis.
- Bear Form unlocks via a quest at level 10 and Cat Form at 20; keep them for travel and emergencies (Icy Veins).
- Use campfires: sitting by a Basic Campfire grants a one-hour buff.
Verdict
Balance is the druid's caster DPS and the one spec built around a visible rotation. Eclipse makes every Wrath shave 0.5 sec off your next two Starfires (stacking to 4 charges), Improved Starfire stacks a further 0.5 sec and a 15% stun on top, and Nature's Grace turns every non-periodic crit into a 10% haste and global-cooldown window for 3 sec. The Sep-24 build also raised Wrath's base damage by about 50%, so the filler no longer feels like a leveling spell.
At level 60 the tree is almost fully spent: 41 points of Balance is every damage talent plus Nature's Splendor, and the last 10 go to Nature's Focus and Naturalist in Restoration (70% pushback resistance and +5% damage). Blizzard's deep dive confirms the shape of the toolkit: Vengeance and Moonfury now cover all Arcane and Nature spells, Moonkin Form gives the whole party +3% crit on spells and melee (exclusive with Feral's Leader of the Pack), and Omen of Clarity is baseline and never consumed by Wrath.
The cost is utility and mobility. Blizzard's own summary says druids cannot snare, silence or interrupt and have weaker crowd control; Wrath and Starfire are cast-time spells, only Moonfire and Insect Swarm move with you, and Hurricane (learned at 40, now with its cooldown removed) is the lone AoE tool. Outside sources are split: MMOExp and Overgear rank Balance in their second band, while the Blizzard-forum list has it fourth, so treat the placement as unsettled until raids open on 2026-12-09.
Strengths
- Eclipse + Improved Starfire gives a real two-button rhythm (Wrath, Starfire, Starfire) with 1.0 sec of cast time shaved off each Starfire at full investment.
- Moonkin Form buffs every party member within 45 yards with +3% crit on all spells and attacks, which makes the spec a bring-me spot in 5-man and 10-man groups.
- Vengeance (+100% crit bonus) and Moonfury (+10% damage) both apply to all Arcane and Nature spells, and the Sep-24 Wrath buff lifted the baseline.
- Can step into tank or healer in an emergency (Icy Veins), and Entangling Roots now works indoors.
Weaknesses
- No interrupt, silence or snare (Blizzard deep dive); crowd control is Entangling Roots and little else.
- Mostly stationary: Wrath and Starfire have cast times, so movement phases rely on Moonfire and Insect Swarm.
- AoE is thin: Hurricane arrives at level 40, so it is absent from the level-30 beta, and no source has yet shown how it performs.
- Third-party rankings disagree (A, A and C across MMOExp, Overgear and the Blizzard-forum thread); there is no level-60 data.
